i like to introduce me and my car. i am Berti from Germany.
Working as a chemical engeneer, i thought a lot about my possibilities to substitute the petrol. So i started testing ethanol in October 2005.
First i made blending tests, because the spirit contains 5% of water, but blending it with petrol was no problem. So i added about 10%. But that was not enough, and the part of the spirit rises to nearly 50%, which means that i drove on E50 without any modification.
A friend who drives the same type of car, does the same.....but he is an electronic specialist and hobby mechanic. He found out that changing the control unit (ECU) chip by a chip of the non-turbo engine has the same effect as chaning the injectors: this increases the injected fuel up to 30% and more!!
he developed an electronic modification for the ECU for cold start, too. This combination allows us to drive onpure E85
But one disadvantage we have: driving on regular petrol is not possible any longer, the engine will run to rich on petrol.
btw: i have tested methanol and i-propanol, which i've got sometimes in little amounts, too. methanol MUST be waterfree, and its to toxic to handle it without care. i-propanol will rise the engine power a little more than ethanol, but its not made of plants (the same for methanol), so it' s not really an alternative.
